Making a flat-out statement that they're not the same person means that he knows first-hand, which means he's one of them. It's not noretreat's writing style but it is consistent with Bobby.
The short-sightedness and failure to consider the implications of making a flat-out statement like that with inside knowledge he can only know if he is one of them is also consistent with Bobby. Please note that I am politely using euphemisms for the shorter and more concise term many people would use for that level of intelligence.
