Manufacturers and operators look forward to a new generation of slots called “skill games,” which will add arcade-style games that remove or downplay the element of chance in winning. The best scores win the cash.
Nevada has approved skill games, but no such pay-to-play games are in casinos yet, as gaming officials decide what the regulations should say. New Jersey also has approved skill-based gaming, and a similar bill was introduced this year in the Pennsylvania Legislature.
“Once those regulations in Nevada are adopted, other states would have a road map to follow,” Prater says. “You’re going to see some very cool stuff in the coming years.”
