BTW, the software to do the digital image recognition already exists. it is a matter of licensing the algorithms into our own GUI running on a high end server. Server could be remote or on site depending on the amount of money an agency wants to spend. The military uses portable HPC technology for missle defense I could imagine S&R agencies doing the same for this technology.
It would be simple. Have about 8 units dedicated to a S&R group. When a call comes in to find a missing XYZ, the agency would request pictures of items the XYZ had at the time of the disappearance. Then, a logical grid would be defined and the drones deployed. The feeds from the droids would be processed at the mobile station and the number of people needed is significantly less since all S&R folks will be focused on tracking leads.
Heck, the software could be written to do gross searches for anomalies and then follow back on hits with a more high resolution analysis.
Either way, you are talking about a faster success ratio with fewer people involved. All in all, a good thing.
