I just spoke with Cusip Global Services https://www.cusip.com/cusip/contact-us.htm which issues ALL publicly traded stock CUSIP numbers (Per them) and they said that they do not issue a separate CUSIP for a stock dividend of a company.
One of my brokers is also Scottrade and they tried to tell me again that this was a spin off. I then addressed the official meeting minutes on the MDMN website and they admitted yes it was a restricted stock dividend.
I told them what Cusip Global Services (212) 438 6500 said about not issuing another cusip for a stock dividend and they had tried to tell me that there was a separate official cusip issued for the dividend. They also said they had talked to the TA and that is what they were told was issued from the DTC.
When I called the TA (American Registar) today they said that the DTC issues a Contra-Cusip (not a real cusip since they cannot do that) internally to keep track and keep separate restricted shares from non-restricted shares on MDMN. In my Scottrade account this contra-Cusip name is MEDIN (Not a real symbol). In my Etrade account the 58489M992 DTC official identifier is listed.
The person I spoke to at Scottrade got miffed when he realized that the information he was presenting about it being a spin-off and a new cusip being assigned officially was not correct.
Hope this helps those who were having the same issues with their brokers.
