Global Personalized Academics, a new Orlando based education venture launched last week aiming to provide virtual classroom learning to help students across the globe transform the way they learn. The company is headed by Julie Young, a virtual learning pioneer and former Founding President and CEO at Florida Virtual School.
Young explains, “GPA offers international students the opportunity to virtually earn a dual diploma from their native country in addition to one from a U.S. accredited high school”. To start, the program will launch in Asia and eventually expand to Latin America. Through the exchange program, teachers and students will teach and learn throughout the U.S. and abroad where their perspective peers live.
With nearly 200 virtual courses, GPA has a robust course offering and a learning portfolio that includes integrated media, blended and online curriculum, instruction and assessments. Students may take courses in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, Japanese, Latin, Russian, German and Hindi. The design of the program emphasizes a personalized student-centered education curriculum in language arts, college prep and Advanced Placement courses along with leadership and entrepreneurial learning experiences.
GPA merged with the public company Sibling Group Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: SIBE) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Blended Schools Network (BSN). “BSN was a pioneer in its own right, providing blended learning models before the rest of us were even talking about it. I am now honored to have the good fortune of working hand in hand with the BSN family,” Young said.
Young and her team at GPA are off to a strong start with 18 employees based in their Orlando be hiring teachers in various markets as they expand.
Julie is a director of the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL). To learn more about Young’s legacy and experience see 10 Lessons from FLVS. For more on GPA see their press release.
