This is a trend that is definitely happening NOW. I think the streaming business is already so big that the providers are being overwhelmed. My Uverse connection is supposed to be 20mbs but the only time I get anywhere close to that is like at 4am. My usual afternoon speed tests show 2-5mbs most of the time. This is why UltraFlix stands to gain a major market share. Somebody said that HEVC is now going to demand a fee for use of its compression technology. How are providers going to supply 20mbs to all customers when everybody is online at the same time wanting to stream a movie? They can't at 20mbs.. Netflix pays the provider a fee to provide Netflix streamers with increased bandwidth. They won't be able to do that forever. Either bandwidth has to increase dramatically (see Google fiber) or everyone is going to have to use services that require much lower bandwidth (see UltraFlix).
