I don't believe Ultraflix is or will be "the next Netflix" or "the future of television", that crap that is posted every now and then on the pony board.
Maybe they could reach a certain level compared to Netflix if they had uploaded the promising content they announced in the past. But they utterly failed to do that. For the moment, UF is a small niche player, nothing more.
As for 4K, you are right. How many people will conciously use this feature on their TV sets, that pretty soon will be 4K by default anyway ?
If the TV sets would lack an internal upscaler, there could have been a real advantage. But since almost half of what UF has so far is just upscaled too, I don't believe many people will pay a premium for something they can have done for free, even if UF adds their "secret sauce", whatever that may be.
How many owners of a full HD TV set are aware of the difference between a SD and HD channel ? I believe the majority doesn't even know the difference. They probably bought an HD set over an SD in those days when both were still available, because the salesperson managed to convince them to buy the more expensive one "for the future". The same happens now, as long as HD's will stil be available.
My hope remains that at least a small percentage will use Ultraflix, if they get good content uploaded.
Just enough to unload my shares, hopefully with some gain.
