"Sorry but you seem to be laboring under a lot of mistaken assumptions:
1) Deals we have coming to fruition now are a direct result of past comic-cons. This includes movies, partnerships, advertisers, etc. These will be worth millions in revenue once all told, and thus the con was the best of investments and activities. This is why we don't do other conventions. As far as not being known, the comic stores don't know us as well, but online readers do. GSL changes that paradigm. (Online is bigger audience currently anyway)
2) We are going this year to prep for GSL launch later this year. Specifically Giant-Size #1. Further we have NUMEROUS meetings every year, with this one being no exception. As has already been said, the point of this book was to lock in the advertisers and fans. Missions accomplished.
3) We didn't change course, so I have no clue to what you're misunderstanding. We put out PRs and will continue to do so during SDCC as warranted.
4) As someone who has been in marketing for decades, announcements at events are common. In fact this is where Marvel, DC and every major entertainment company makes their big announcements. So if we are stupid in this practice, then so are the industries we work in. It also acts as a push for people we work with to tie up loose ends by a deadline."
What I get from this is:
Advertisers have been secured for GSL.
GSL launch is still planned for 2015.
