Aeropostale Rises on Plan to Open 30 Stores in India -- Market Talk
2 hours 14 minutes ago - DJNF
1033 GMT [Dow Jones] Aeropostale (ARO) said Thursday it plans to open 30 stores in India in the next three years. The company said it had partnered with Arvind (500101.BY), a large Indian textile supplier, which also brought US clothing retailer Gap to India this summer. "India is a truly exciting retail market, driven by its growing economy and vibrant youth culture," Julian Geiger, chief executive of Aeropostale, said in a statement. India's 1.2 billion people and its swelling middle class, which is bigger than the entire population of the U.S. by some estimates, has caught the fancy of big global brands in recent years. Shares of Arvind rose 1.91% to 272.5 rupees a piece after the announcement. (preetika.rana@wsj.com; Twitter: @Preetika_Rana)
