If you go to your settings, you will see a setting called Person Marks.  This is a sign of respect here on message boards like this.  Basically, if you like a person's posts and his/her overall aura, you have the option of giving them a Person Mark.  The more a person has, the more respected that person is.  To give someone a PM, you go to their profile and simply click the link to do so.

For instance, you had 5 before I wrote this message, now you have 6.  :-)
