They DO look stupid. It reminds me of an aesops fable that go's something like this:
Two men we walking down a road. One was talking about how bad it would be if something bad happened to him. He wondered what he would do if he went blind. So just to see what it would be like, he closed his eyes and walked along the road. While his eyes were closed, the other fellow happened to find a satchel of money that had been dropped.
The bashers are the blind guy who not only look stupid but are too stupid to see what is right in front of their eyes.
