As I wrote before (thruthaboutcomp... is not an asst.mod here, so I can repeat; LOL ), here's why I don't believe Ultraflix will be the next Netflix, and why companies like Netflix don't invest too much in having 4K content while already possessing large amounts of HD content:
And those chips will only get better.
Who will pay a premium to have "real" 4K content (a lot of content on UF is upscaled too, with that "special 4K studios sauce" ) ?
This does not mean that I think Ultraflix will be a failure. No, I think (hope) it will be successful, but at a smaller scale than Netflix, more a niche player. Maybe the biggest "4K only", who knows.
It just won't be as big as most of the pumpers over on the pony board dream of.
4K will be the future of television for some years for sure, but not Ultraflix. That is a step too far I believe.
