Interesting experience with ultrasux a co-worker today who has a smart phone and google play, which he uses all the time. Our speed was over 24Mbps. Samsung Note 3
Went over to his edit bay while he had some render time to kill. I asked him about what he uses to stream movies and stuff and he uses Showbox mostly, and netflix as well. He did not know what ultrasux was. He also has been checking out 4K but not seriously. We brought up google play, searched for streaming apps. 243 came up. Not all were players, but many where library apps to find sources. Don't know why google has so much jumbled together, but the search tiers aren't very helpful. In the first search, I think things come up in order of downloads. Rockplayer does 4K which came up after many pages.
After swiping about 40 pages and no ultrasux, I started from the end and worked toward the beginning. With only 100 downloads listed, ultrasux had to be in the last 10th of the list, which I missed apparently because I gave up with that search.
Went back and tried a actual search with "streaming player". Again many pages, gave up after a few minutes. Tried ultrasux (spelled correctly) and it finally came up.
Under the "learn more" button, ultrasux shows a menu page very much like netflix's menu layout, but just that stupid interview from CES that d.f. paid for. My friend did all the finger flexing. First thing, he said the app landing page was lousy as he didn't get any real information about ultrasux. He said there was no way to get any info beyond ultrasux saying they streamed movies and specials. Also, he said it was weird that it was asking for login and registration on the first page after it downloaded. No way to search for content, and I don't think I saw anything 4K on the first 2 pages that came up. I didn't have my glasses so it was difficult to read all the little typing so I could be wrong.
I asked him to go through whatever he has to do to go further with the app. Only choice was login or register new account. Full page of personal information requests including phone numbers, email and home address. He said f'that! Hardly any app asks this on just downloading to intro or demo an app. To prove that to me, he randomly picked an app with his eyes closed and then clicked it and downloaded it in seconds and it started right up. No asking, no account...went back to google play, picked 'home apps, or something and hit a random icon, dl'd and it came right up. Picked a random streaming service, came right up, and we were able to search it's whole library and other offerings. Same with showbox, no account needed etc. It was freaking me out how easy it was to download stuff and load the crap out of your phone too....So he didn't like that about UF.
So he was in the account set up screen and hit cancel and the app froze up and locked. He had to do a force close. He went back to UF, tried the account screen and it locked up again. Other apps on his phone were working fine. Started watching showbox for a minute as well. One last attempt on UF and it froze playing the only vid on the intro... Hopefully he is able to uninstall it.
I looked at all 23 total reviews (that's a lot for a world wide only'est leader bringing 4K to consumers,, huh.) I'd say 17 were from shareholders as they all identified it as NTEK, NOT nanotech entertainment like a normal person who doesn't own stock in ntek would. A couple were pissed about having to set up an account just to learn what the content was and one guy said UF was crap as it doesn't contain any player or codecs, yet bills itself as capable of streaming so many things and he still has to pay for a no add player,,MX? Free players are full of advertising, that's why they're free to download. These are good points.
After spending time on my friends googly play (Emphasis mine) and looking at media app after media app and all of them allowed me to look at content listings, movie lists and just about anything else I could think of.
So, my friends final summary, And I only asked him to look for UF and made no comments about UF or nanotech except that they offered 4K streaming, after he personally kept working with UF (as much as we were allowed without logging in that is) is, and he said "One, never would have found it, because I've never heard of it. It wasn't showing up in the first 25 pages of Media streaming apps, didn't show up in streaming movie search either, so I would have stopped anyways. IF I had found it, I never would have given out any information just to find out what UF does anyways, so I would have thrown that out too. Never had an app freeze up on me just advancing through its pages. Still don't know what it is and don't want to download it anyways." That's more or less a quote of what I remember from this afternoon. And this is from a guy that makes his living massaging media to tell a story. He can twiddle that smart phone with his toes. He's had smart phones from day one and knows his way around. Even IT asks him questions about stuff. Me, not so much.
Sorry, not impressed, now that I was coached by a pro smart phone whiz. /quote]
