With Tax Day fast approaching (it's April 17 this year), folks may be considering clever ways to hide their money. One "secret" place they might want to avoid: the kitchen. A recent Marist poll found that 27 percent of Americans hide their rainy-day stash in the freezer, giving new meaning to "cold, hard cash." Other popular hiding places include the sock drawer (19 percent) or the cookie jar (10 percent), as well as the age-old favorite, under the mattress (11 percent). A creative 9 percent of respondents store their secret stash in some "other" in-home location, while 17 percent said there's no safe place in their homes to hide cash, which at first struck us as smart and then, frankly, a little sad.
