The price of the stock of Synergy Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SGYP) surged more than 12% during extended-hours trading Friday after billionaire John Paulson's hedge fund Paulson & Co. disclosed in a regulatory filing ( Form 13F-HR ) with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it added 2,095,600 shares of SGYP to its investment portfolio during the first quarter 2015, representing a 2.11% stake in the biopharmaceutical company.
SGYP is focused on the development of novel therapies to treat gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.

After the closing bell on Friday, Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. - Petrobras (PBR) reported better-than-expected quarterly profit in its financial results.
For the first quarter 2015, PBR posted net profit of R$5.33 billion (aprox. $1.78 billion), a 1.2% decrease year over year but well above the R$2.5 billion average forecast by analysts in a Reuters survey.
According to PBR, its quarterly earnings decreased mainly as a result of the exchange rate devaluation in the period.
PBR operates as an integrated energy company in Brazil and internationally.
