They think they can hide behind the 1st Amendment. They believe they can act with impunity because they have for so long. Initially, the bashers dance their dance and tip toe along the line that is the gray area. But what was once the grey area has now become the line for them and they frequently cross it because there's no accountability to speak of.
F'em! They'll get what's coming to 'em.
