This whole article is exactally what we spoke about via landline the other day Chess - The country is in such control that it is beyond me how we are even attempting to make our presence with in it, except for Data transmissions as quoted "The Gambia Telecommunications Company Limited, Gamtel, owns the fiber-optic cable that runs across the country and is the sole fixed-line provider . As a state-owned entity, Gamtel also controls the international gateway, allowing private telecoms to lease the gateway for data services only. In May 2013, however, the government began the process of liberalizing international gateway services by granting international data transmission licenses to private telecom operators.[16] Voice communications, on the other hand, remain purely state-owned and controlled as part of the government’s effort to protect Gamtel’s monopoly. "
So here we play with Gambia and we can only support data as the Voice is in total control of the government. Curious to know who the private Telecom operators are in country.
Did we show an outage per MC awhile back via messages and or late financials due to this outage. This quote is very interesting.
""The popular VoIP platform, Viber, was blocked in March 2014[39] and unblocked in July 2014 for unclear reasons.""
Nice post and although the government does hold a control on the Telecommunications, This little country is not the only one doing this in Africa. I am hoping we see long term revenues being obtained from it.
