I met Paul Rauner today.
Over a series of emails, he was able to grant me 15 minutes of his very busy schedule to answer a few questions face to face.
He asked me to meet him at some newly acquired office space at, believe it or not, 911 Washington Street in St. Louis. It's a cool office building specifically dedicated to start-up companies. He has a swanky Silicon Valley vibe complete with a large blow up T-Rex doll, ping pong table, and a bar. The offices had floor to ceiling glass walls. The atmosphere is something reminiscent of my visit to the Googleplex in Santa Claira CA a few years back.
Immediately, you could tell how proud he was of this technology. He has dedicated years of his life building and developing this technology because he believes it will help fix a terribly broken system. He began to tell me how over the years, himself, family, and others have helped finance SirenGPS. They finally have a fully functional product that is ready for market and they have run out of money. That was the purpose of HDSI.
He described his marketing plan with me. In my opinion, his idea is genius. You see, the money is in the Mass Alert functions of the app. If he can win the contracts for Mass Alert alone, that is a billion dollar industry. So basically, he's giving away the Siren911 portion of the app the communities so they will get on board with Siren Alert (the real money maker).
He showed me a complete demo of both the app and the back end. The user interface is superb with both and couldn't have been designed any better. The learning curve for both everyone will be minimal. I believe anyone can learn the back end with minimal training. That is going to be a huge selling point.
He filled me in on the marketing operations that are currently taking place. HDSI is working with a marketing firm also located in St. Louis. Just this morning Paul was training the marketing team not only about the products, how they work, but also the marketing strategy. The strategy is to focus on several of the townships and municipalities within the St. Louis county area. After a few of these cities sign on, it will be easy to get the entire county on board. If I understood him correctly, he believes the St. Louis county is worth about a million a year in potential revenue by itself. This would be a huge win for HDSI.
Paul also explained the current structure of SirenGPS and HDSI to me. Currently, he is working to transfer all of the intellectual property from SirenGPS to HDSI. Essentially completing the merger. He said this requires private auditors and will take a few months to complete. Paul, his family, and other financiers have a lot invested in SirenGPS. He said the purchase of the intellectual property would be made with preferred shares only.
He has a very strong long term outlook. He hopes to hold most of the market share of Mass Alert messaging across the country within three years.
Even though he only had time for 15 minutes, he spent nearly a full hour speaking with me. He has retail inverters in mind. He is doing his best to avoid bad financing.
We talked about a lot of things in that hour. If you guys have any questions let me know. I'm sure I just can't remember everything right now.
