DALLAS--(April, 28, 2015) (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MoneyGram (NASDAQ: MGI ), a global provider of money transfer services, is announcing a series of initiatives to help the Nepali people who were impacted by the devastation caused by the April 25 earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8; there are more than six million people living within 60 miles of the epicenter.
MoneyGram is making a $25,000 donation to AmeriCares to support immediate relief efforts. In addition, from now until May 31, 2015, MoneyGram is waiving the transaction fee for customers in the United States who want to make a financial gift online to American Red Cross International Services, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to those in need. Customers can also make a donation at a MoneyGram location using the MoneyGram ExpressPayment® service. Lastly, through May 31, 2015, TransferTo and MoneyGram are partnering to offer free mobile top-ups for friends and family in Nepal who were affected by the earthquake. Recharges can be made on the TransferTo website at moneygram.transferto.com/redeem/helpnepal .

Donations to the Red Cross can be made at www.MoneyGram.com or any of the 38,000 MoneyGram ExpressPayment® agent locations in the U.S. All donations should be submitted to "Red Cross Nepal" under receive code 2540 to waive the transaction fee. Any dollar amount will be accepted up to a maximum of $249.99 per transaction.
Currently, AmeriCares emergency response team is in Kathmandu delivering medicines and relief supplies to provide immediate relief to those with injuries and other healthcare needs. The Red Cross has deployed field assessment teams to the area, including eight American Red Cross disaster specialists, and is providing approximately 19,000 non-food relief kits in Nepal, which include clothing, kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mosquito nets and personal hygiene items. Operations are expected to be based in Kathmandu in order to provide necessary and needed assistance throughout the region.
