Keep a close eye on Regulus Therapeutics Inc. (RGLS), which said AstraZeneca (AZN) has selected the first clinical development candidate under the companies' strategic alliance, RG-125 (AZD4076), targeting microRNA-103/107 for the treatment of Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) in patients with type 2 diabetes/pre-diabetes.
In connection with the candidate selection, biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca will pay RGLS $2.5 million and will assume development of the program following acceptance of an Investigational New Drug application.
Since the companies started their strategic alliance in 2012 to discover and develop microRNA therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases and oncology, AstraZeneca has paid $28.0 million (including an equity investment to RGLS, which also has earned a $2.5 million milestone payment for the above-mentioned clinical candidate selection and is eligible to receive up to $495.5 million in future milestone payments from AstraZeneca.
Shares of RGLS surged more than 10% Tuesday in extended-hours trading, following the announcement.

After the closing bell on Tuesday, Dave & Buster's Entertainment, Inc. (PLAY) reported strong quarterly financial results, with revenue and profit numbers that exceeded analysts' expectations.
