Dr. Phillips Chiropractic, Nutrition and Wellness Advises Weekend Warriors on Spinal Decompression

SAN ANTONIO, April 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The head of Dr. Phillips Chiropractic, Nutrition and Wellness , chiropractor Dr. Donald Phillips, is advising weekend warriors and those with yard work injuries to seek chiropractic care instead of "toughing it out" with pain. The San Antonio chiropractic physician says that allowing a weekend injury to fester without treatment can lead to permanent damage and pain for years to come. He says that there are several non-invasive, drug-free treatments such as spinal adjustments and spinal decompression that can help people overcome back pain, neck pain and other aches that come from overdoing it on the weekend.

"Weekends are statistically a dangerous time for people's backs," says Dr. Phillips. "Folks spend all week working at their desks, and then spend all weekend doing DIY projects or gardening or overdoing it in sports that they are not well-conditioned for. By Monday, they are ingesting painkillers every four hours and wondering why the pain isn't going away. It's situations like these that require prompt chiropractic care if they are to avoid long-term pain and dysfunction."

Dr. Phillips points out two drug-free, non-invasive back pain treatment options that he says can help people recover more quickly from weekend back injuries. Spinal decompression, he says, is very effective for treating bulging, slipped or herniated discs. He explains that the patient is strapped to a special spinal decompression table that gently stretches the spine, removing pressure from the discs so that they stop pinching nerves. He adds that the stretching sucks fresh circulation into injured discs, helping them heal and enabling them to regain their shock-absorbing function.

The chiropractor also adds that at his San Antonio chiropractic office, spinal adjustments are very effective at relieving pain. He explains that people commonly have an undiagnosed misalignment of the vertebrae which is called a subluxation. He says sudden activity on the weekend can worsen these misalignments, causing pinched nerves and pressure on the discs between the vertebrae. Dr. Phillips says he uses several spinal adjusting techniques designed to re-align vertebrae so they stop grating on nerves and discs to relieve back pain.

"It is so important for people to receive timely attention for any case of back pain or back injury," says Dr. Phillips. "Chiropractic adjustments and spinal decompression are enormously helpful for pain relief and long-term healing. I also teach my patients how to work and play more ergonomically and advise them on maintaining core strength so that the weekend doesn't pose so much danger to their backs in the future. It's essential to maintain good posture and ergonomics, no matter what weekend activity you're engaging in."
