Community banks across the country outperformed the rest the of the banking industry, according to the FDIC's Quarterly Banking Profile report for the fourth quarter of 2014. Community banks earned $4.8 billion during the quarter. And banks in what's known as the "Dallas geographical region" — which includes New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and five other states — outperformed many other regions, save for the "New York geographical region," which includes most of the East Coast, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. While the rest of the industry reported a decrease of $2.9 billion in income for the quarter — 7.3 percent down from the same quarter a year earlier — community banks reported a 28 percent increase in income from a year prior...
