Bobs Info Orgy on the New Trommel:
Thanks John, the Trommel Screen is used mostly by the wood chip industry, mulch and light sand and gravel, not commonly used in the iron ore mining; therefore the new trommel model 3300 most likely could not have withstood the abuse of iron chips, so the good folks at PowerScreen took an older model 830 and totally dismantled it, installed a new Cat Tier 3 engine, bigger hydraulic power pack, modified the feeder tray, reinforced the cage with a 1-inch heavy duty screen and the 0.05mm screen (size of a tea strainer) will wrapped around it for protection; and replaced the belt drive with a heavy-duty chain drive to roll the cage with more power. We had already screened the materials down to minus 1mm with the speed harp installed on the second screen off production, thus to our surprised we ended up with about 170,000 mt of iron dust, dirt and iron chips and the iron chips represent about 35 to 40% of that waste. So the trommel will pay for itself in the first shipment of minus 1mm iron chips that will be sold as sinter fines to a pellet plant. After the big pile is screened, the machine will be moved over in front of the second screen catching all that material as it is produced, the balance of the materials screened from the trommel will then be used as organic fertilizer at minus -0.05mm which is the desired size for those materials anyway.. All the new parts are in now, and assemble is under-way, should be ready in another 10 to 14 days more…
