Cypress Adds Two New TrueTouch Capacitive Touchscreen Controllers With Advanced Features for Smartphones, E-Readers and Low-Cost Tablets
Marketwired - Tue Mar 03, 7:01AM CST
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today introduced the TrueTouch(R) CYTT21X/31X capacitive touchscreen controller family that enables smartphones, e-readers and low-cost tablets to offer multiple advanced features. The CYTT31X controller supports input from a passive stylus with a tip as fine as 2.5 mm, which is essential for writing in languages that require enhanced character recognition for reliable text input, such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese. The CYTT21X controller supports a face detection feature that prevents unintended touches from accidentally hanging up a call. This feature eliminates the need for infrared proximity sensors by using the touchscreen sensor to detect a face 25 mm away, thus cutting bill-of-material (BOM) costs.

Next Generation Memory Market 2013-2020: (Nonvolatile memory (MRAM, FRAM, PCM, and RRAM), Volatile Memory (DRAM (T-RAM, T-T-RAM, and others) and SRAM (Z-RAM and others))
M2 - Tue Feb 17, 10:09AM CST
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/85j9h8/next_generation) has announced the addition of the "Next Generation Memory Market by Technology , Application & Geography - Global Forecast to 2013 - 2020" report to their offering. The rapidly evolving technology, continuous cutback in process, increasing competition, and a fast move toward nanotechnology characterize the worldwide semiconductor memory market. Chip sizes are shrinking and memory content and applications are increasing. This has resulted in the tremendous growth of the next generation memory market. Next generation memories are the emerging non-volatile memory technologies, which are expected to replace the existing memories; not all the existing memories will be replaced though. High write and read latency, scalability, and high endurance, among others, makes emerging memories the best replacement for traditional non-volatile memories. Next generation memory technologies covered in this report are Magnetoresistive Random-Access Memory (MRAM), Ferroelectric RAM (FRAM), Phase-change memory (PCM), and Resistive Random-Access Memory (RRAM), among others. Out of these memories, only MRAM and FeRAM account for a reasonable market share and they are quite commercialized in the market. MRAM memory technology is well commercialized and assures a high capacity; it also improves memory solutions for the high end consumer electronics devices. The major drivers for the next generation memory market are faster switching time, high endurance, and better power efficiency. In addition, the huge application base of traditional memories will also become the driver for this market. Since these memories are not completely established, there are still flaws in the processes, which cause drawbacks such as instability and low write endurance rate in some of the memories. As mentioned, these memories are expected to be the replacement for flash memories in near future. The flash market has already tapped the huge market and, hence, it makes the way for next generation memories.
