Wasting no time in leveraging the powerful tools of its newly acquired subsidiary, Sibling Group Holdings recently announced that it has agreed upon the terms of a partnership with a selection of secondary schools in Hong Kong.
In order to better prepare students attending Lok Sin Tong Schools for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) final exam, a test taken by college-bound seniors throughout the Special Administrative Region of China, the non-profit organization will use Writing Planet™, a web-based writing practice tool produced by Sibling Group’s newest subsidiary, Urban Planet Mobile (UPM). The partnership, which was entered between UPM and Integrative Counseling Services Limited, could provide access to a host of schools with enrollment totals topping 9,000 pupils.
“There is a growing emphasis in the HKSDE on English language proficiency, and in particular competencies-based skills such as reading and writing,” noted Peppina Tse, Vice President of Integrated Counselling Services. In particular, students learning English struggle with improving writing skills. According to a report from the University of North Carolina, writing is an extension of listening and speaking, and, therefore, students must have established confidence in their language abilities before written output can be effectively improved.
It is in this area that Sibling Group’s web-based writing practice tool is most valuable to international learning markets. “It has been proven that more writing practice with immediate feedback using programs such as Writing Planet can lead to improved scores,” continued Tse.
The terms of the initial partnership include several of Lok Sin Tong’s secondary schools, and the international foothold in one of the world’s most highly populated and rapidly developing regions puts Sibling Group’s potential for growth at an all-time high.
According to a report from World Bank, enrollment in secondary schools throughout Hong Kong is trending upwards towards 90 percent of qualifying students.
