Ceremony Held to Mark the Launch of Verification Testing of World's First Digital Hydraulic Drive Train for Offshore Wind Turbines at Hunterston Test Centre in the UK
JCN Newswire - Thu Feb 05, 4:05AM CST
On February 4 (London time) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) have begun onshore verification testing of a large-scale (MWT167H/7.0) digital hydraulically driven offshore wind turbine at the Hunterston Test Centre(1) in the United Kingdom. The wind turbine was developed with support from Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the UK Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) and Innovate UK (TSB). Its operation at the Hunterston site is a world's first for a large-scale wind turbine with a hydraulic drive train controlled by Digital Displacement(2).
Tollgrade's LightHouse(R) Smart Grid Sensors Monitor Renewables and Collisions on Overhead Power Lines in the United Kingdom
PRWeb - Tue Oct 21, 5:30AM CDT
Tollgrade Communications, Inc., the industry leader in redefining the global standard for reliability at the world's largest electric utilities and telecommunications providers, announced today that is actively engaged in Ofgem funded projects with Western Power Distribution (WPD), Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) and Community Energy Scotland. WPD will deploy Tollgrade LightHouse Sensors to monitor network capacity and renewables to avoid building expensive new infrastructure and reduce the cost passed onto UK consumers. SSEPD is spearheading a first-of-its kind project that will use Tollgrade LightHouse Sensors to monitor medium voltage overhead lines for collisions to better and more proactively protect public safety from accidental contact with overhead lines. Community Energy Scotland will assist the procurement and operation of sensors by community-owned generators enabling participants to see the power flows within their local networks; a vital element in developing local energy systems. These projects are important to UK consumers because they will help keep the costs of energy delivery down, improve public safety and combat global climate change by reducing the UK's carbon footprint.
