Cepheid Receives FDA Clearance for Expanded Claims on Tuberculosis Test
PR Newswire - Fri Feb 13, 6:00AM CST
Cepheid (Nasdaq: CPHD) today announced it has received clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for expanded claims on its Xpert® MTB/RIF test. Xpert MTB/RIF detects Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTB-complex) DNA and in positive specimens, provides simultaneous identification of rifampin-resistance associated mutations of the rpoB gene. The expanded product claim enables clinicians to use either one or two negative Xpert MTB/RIF test results, in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory data, to remove patients from airborne infection isolation (AII), commonly referred to as respiratory isolation. The test runs on the Cepheid GeneXpert® System, the world's leading molecular diagnostic platform with over 8,000 systems deployed globally in both developed and emerging market countries.

Global Molecular Diagnostics in Infectious Disease Testing Overview Report: Infectious disease space is the most dominant and profitable sector of molecular diagnostics
M2 - Thu Feb 05, 3:00AM CST
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/b4g8s4/molecular) has announced the addition of the "Global Molecular Diagnostics in Infectious Disease Testing Overview Report: Infectious disease space is the most dominant and profitable sector of molecular diagnostics" report to their offering. Topics covered in this study include: 1) the existing and emerging technologies in the field, 2) the U.S. and global market size for molecular diagnostic products and 3) the profiles of companies that are focusing on the molecular diagnostic sector. The research examines drivers and restraints for sales growth, market share and technical trends. In addition, an in-depth analysis of the competitive situation of prominent market venders is provided with five-year sales forecasts. This publications report describes the specific segment of the in vitro diagnostics market known as molecular diagnostics testing for infectious disease. In the current medical diagnostics market, molecular diagnostics in infectious disease testing offers one of the most promising areas for growth and innovation. The confluence of breakthroughs in genomics and proteomics-along with the development of microarray devices to measure analytes in the blood-has led to this revolutionary market development. Specifically, molecular diagnostics offers the power of advanced analytical techniques to diagnose infectious diseases. Whereas before, the detection of many infectious agents was slow and expensive due to reliance upon culturing methods, researchers are now at the cusp of overcoming such limitations via the use of nucleic acid-mediated molecular diagnostics testing. Key Topics Covered: 1. Overview 2. Introduction to Molecular Diagnostics for Infectious Disease Testing 3. Infectious Disease Diagnostics Molecular Testing Market 4. Molecular Diagnostic Testing Technology for Infectious Disease Testing 5. Business 6. Reimbursement and Billing Landscape for Molecular Diagnostics Testing for Infectious Disease 7. Global Bio-detection (1st, 2nd & 3rd Generation) Market 2014-2018 with Agilent Technologies, Cepheid, Roche Diagnostics & Smiths Group Dominating
M2 - Sat Jan 31, 1:02AM CST
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/n5mnwh/global) has announced the addition of the "Global Bio-detection Market 2014-2018" report to their offering. The Global Bio-detection market to grow at a CAGR of 14.19% over the period 2013-2018. Bio-detection has emerged as a solution to the public and governments. With an increase in bio-terrorism, the occurrence of illness and deaths is very frequent. This event is caused by the airborne chemicals or pathogens that are released by a terrorist or a group of people or even by an individual for a motive. These pathogens can be detected by a system called bio-detection, which signals the entry or the existence of a virus. The increasing attacks have brought a major concern to the public as well as governments. Attacks such as the 2001 Anthrax scare, the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the 2004 Ricin letters, the 2009 H1N1, and the 2014 Ebola outbreaks have driven governments to increase their bio-surveillance budgets. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated from the sales, services, and upgrades of the bio-detection system in the Government sector. The increased need for bio-security is one of the major trends witnessed in the market. The increase in bio-terrorist attacks has increased the need for bio-security systems that secure people from pathogen attacks and reduce the risk of disease transmission to others. According to the report, the need for an early detection system for bio-terrorist attacks is one of the major drivers in the market. The existing bio-detection systems take a long time to detect and confirm the presence of a virus, and this can be fatal. Therefore, research is being conducted to introduce fast detection systems. Further, the report states that difficulty in detecting the presence of pathogens is one of the major challenges in the market. The minute presence of pathogens in air, water, and food makes it difficult to detect, and hence the detectors show a negative result. The bio-detection systems considered in this report are listed below: - 1st generation bio-detection systems - 2nd generation bio-detection systems - 3rd generation bio-detection systems Key Vendors - Agilent Technologies - Cepheid - Roche Diagnostics - Smiths Group Other Prominent Vendors - 20/20 GeneSystems - 3M Microbiology - Advnt Biotechnologies - Alexeter Technologies - ANP Technologies - BAS - Biological Alarm Systems - BD Biosciences Immunocytometry Systems - Bertin Technologies - Biodefense - BioDETECT - BioSentinel Pharmaceuticals - BioTraces - BioVeris - Commonwealth Biotechnologies - Dycor Technologies - Environics - Evogen - General Dynamics Canada - GenPrime - Groton Biosystems - Haztech Systems - JMAR Technologies - New Horizons Diagnostics - Proengin - Response Biomedical - Tetracore For more information visit http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/n5mnwh/global
