Photo Release -- Three Northrop Grumman Employees Receive Top Awards at 2015 Black Engineer of the Year Conference

WASHINGTON – Feb. 9, 2015 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC ) employees Philip Lovell, Tizoc Loza and Zachary Barnett received top awards at the 29th annual Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Global Competitiveness Conference held this weekend in Washington, D.C. BEYA acknowledges excellence in accomplishments in STEM fields. Additionally, six Northrop Grumman employees were recognized as BEYA Modern-Day Technology Leaders and another received the Science Spectrum Trailblazer award at the conference.

The employees were recognized for their dedication to community service, educational leadership and outstanding technical and professional contributions, among other achievements.

Lovell, a Fellow mechanical engineer at Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems, received the Outstanding Technical Contribution award. He has had many technical roles involved with programs such as Agile Beam Radar, F-22, the Joint Strike Fighter and STARLite. He has authored 18 publications and has received four new technology and 19 trade secret awards. He is an active mentor to younger engineers. Lovell earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of the District of Columbia and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Loza received the Corporate Promotion of Education award and is the Northrop Grumman manager for Global Supplier Diversity Programs/Government Relations. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the Small Business Innovation Research Program, which supports the transfer of technology to small businesses and universities, and he manages the Northrop Grumman Mentor-Protégé program. He supports education working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges/Universities and other Minority Institutions to identify scholarship awards, research and development programs, and subcontracting opportunities. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and International Business from California State University, Long Beach, and a master's with emphasis in Supply Chain from Strayer University, Alexandria, Va.

Barnett, a software engineer in Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector, is responsible for the design and development of projects for the U.S. Department of Defense including a web-based collaborative tool and cross-domain capability supporting strategic planning. He received a Special Recognition award. He is the professional development chair of the Northrop Grumman African American Task Group Employee Resource Group and involved in community youth activities as a mentor to local K-12 students, with the CyberPatriot and VEX Robotics student science competitions. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Computer Science from North Carolina A&T State University.

The six Northrop Grumman employees who were honored as BEYA Modern-Day Technology Leaders are: Aaron Copeland, Bianca Brandveen, Deidre Connor, Michael Finnessy, Matthew Janisz and William Smith. Anthony Barnes received the Science Spectrum Trailblazer award.
