Butler Snow Announces Second Major Nashville Expansion

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Butler Snow has further expanded the firm's Nashville office as 13 attorneys from Walker, Tipps & Malone PLC join the firm's commercial litigation practice. With this growth, Butler Snow cements itself among the largest law firms in Tennessee, and greatly enhances its existing commercial litigation group.

This move also adds three attorneys to Butler Snow's already significant presence in the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). The ACTL is the premier professional organization of trial lawyers in the United States and Canada; membership is extended by invitation only to those recognized as the best trial lawyers in the country. The ACTL Fellows joining the firm are:

  • Frank W. Hunger, who served as a United States Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General and led the Civil Division. Hunger was actively involved in civil trial practice for 27 years before serving in the Department of Justice. He has served as both local and regional counsel for numerous Fortune 500 companies.

  • Gayle I. Malone, Jr., who has been engaged in the practice of civil trial law since 1973. Malone has represented plaintiffs and defendants in business, personal injury and wrongful death, construction, insurance, and healthcare litigation.

  • Robert J. Walker, who has more than 40 years of experience in prosecuting and defending litigation involving many different industries. For the past 25 years, he has focused primarily on commercial litigation involving securities and corporate governance lawsuits, shareholder and hostile takeover suits, anti-trust, consumer protection, and business fraud.

Other lawyers joining Butler Snow's Nashville office also include: Jason W. Callen, Beau C. Creson, John C. Hayworth, M. Ryder Lee, Charles I. Malone, Lauren Patten, Erin Palmer Polly, D. Gil Schuette, J. Mark Tipps, and Joseph F. Welborn III. Many of these lawyers have been locally and nationally recognized as leaders in the field of commercial and business litigation.

"These attorneys bring exceptional commercial litigation experience to the firm," said Donald Clark, Jr., chairman of Butler Snow. "One of the most dynamic aspects of this relationship is that Butler Snow has long been a leader in the alternative fee arena while this group has been a leader in handling business disputes through contingency and alternative fee arrangements. This will certainly well position our commercial litigation team and greatly benefit clients."

"Butler Snow has established itself as an innovative and forward thinking firm that consistently delivers results for its clients, and its culture of teamwork and service greatly appealed to us," said Robert J. Walker, one of the founders of Walker, Tipps & Malone PLC. "Sharing our experience, knowledge and resources is going to create one of the strongest commercial litigation groups in the southeast."

Butler Snow's commercial litigation group handles a wide array of complex disputes arising from contract and business arrangements for a broad range of businesses across the country. The team is led by some of the firm's most experienced trial lawyers and has a reputation for successfully handling complex commercial litigation, class actions and white collar investigations and attorney general initiated investigations and litigation primarily involving regulated industries.

Butler Snow offers a full range of business, litigation and government relations services across a variety of legal practices. With these additions, the firm offers increased depth and breadth to its commercial and general litigation groups. These teams handle a variety of complex disputes from contract and business disputes for a range of businesses nationwide to tort litigation and commercial liability defense. Butler Snow is also recognized as a leader in providing value solutions for major corporate clients, including extensive flat fee, alternative fee and shared-risk pricing solutions.

The firm's first Nashville expansion was in 2012 when 37 attorneys joined the firm. Butler Snow's Nashville office now includes 62 attorneys, and is located downtown in the Pinnacle at Symphony Place, 150 3 rd Ave. South, Suite 1600. To accommodate this growth, Butler Snow has acquired and is renovating an additional 8,800 square feet of space in the Pinnacle building. The firm now occupies the fifteenth and sixteenth floors and a portion of the fourteenth floor.
