Tootie Pie Company, Inc. was incorporated on June 16, 2005. In September 2005, the Company purchased all of Tootie’s pie recipes, customer lists, the right to the “Tootie Pie” name, and the related baking equipment, and building located in Medina, TX. Tootie became an employee and shareholder of the newly formed company but has since retired and hung up her apron to see her dream come to life. Tootie is still a shareholder and major force in the Tootie Pie Company today.
Because of her past experience working with her mother, Bobbie Keese, Tootie’s daughter, became our VP of Baking Operations and is responsible for running our baking operations and ensuring that our pies meet the same high quality standards set by Tootie.
The history of Tootie Pies is a classic story of humble beginnings.
After the loss of her husband Bob in 1982, Tootie dreamed of having her own bakery to help support her family. Of course, a dream starts with a single step, so she baked and sold her pies from home. As word about her pies spread, she started baking pies for the local market in Medina alongside her job of company cook at a lodge outside of Medina.
Tootie would wake up at 3 A.M. to prepare pies for the market before going to her day job at the lodge in the winter months. People would drive from all over to Medina, asking locals where they could find one of "Tootie’s pies". Thus the name "Tootie Pie" was born.
Tootie’s popularity grew as her pies won baking contests all over the Texas hill country. For the next five years, Tootie continued baking as many pies as she could. She opened a small bakery in Medina and sold her fresh, handmade creations to her adoring customers until 2005.
