Considering how well they were doing just from open pit mining, I'd guess (as I've theorised often) they did indeed find something even better on the rest of their work and drilling programmes. They sure had room to find it on the other unexplored 80%!
Can you imagine - I think that mine was first opened in 1923 - certainly in the 1920's and in all that time they never explored anywhere else in the concession? LOL How come? Seems a bit unusual?
Thinking out loud - if Goldcorp had a vein that literally ran up to the side of Cinco Minas - it would be common sense to believe it carried on into CM as well.
It would indeed be a sensible thing for Goldcorp to buy CM as well. With a strong assay results from new drilling reports - the selling price could only go higher than $650m!
I'd also like to know what they've done with all the money they've made from the continuing operations in all this time.
