According to the lawsuit, on March 13, 2014, World Acceptance disclosed that the United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ("CFPB") was conducting an investigation of the Company for "unlawful acts or practices in connection with the marketing, offering or extension of credit in violation of" federal consumer financial laws such as the Truth in Lending Act and Consumer Financial Protection Act. As a result of the announcement of the U.S. government's investigation, World Acceptance's stock price fell almost 20% on March 13, 2014 on high volume, causing millions in investor losses.
As a result of the foregoing news, on April 22, 2014, a World Acceptance shareholder represented by another law firm filed a class action complaint against World Acceptance for securities fraud. The complaint was filed in the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, Case No. 6:14-cv-01606-MGL.
