CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif., Jan. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Carmel Bach Festival , a world-class festival of music and ideas celebrating the works, inspiration, and ongoing influence of J.S. Bach, will be presenting two concerts on February 12 featuring violinist Edwin Huizinga. A second show has just been added due to popular demand.
"An Evening with Edwin Huizinga" showcases the veteran Carmel Bach Festival violinist who is an expert in baroque and modern techniques. Huizinga will be joined by pianist Ian Scarfe and guitarist William Coulter to perform a range of classical, Celtic and contemporary pieces music from Bach, Brahms, Ravel, John Adams, and more.
The first concert takes place at 5:30 p.m. at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church located at 28005 Robinson Canyon Road in Carmel. A second concert will take place at the same venue starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale at www.bachfestival.org or (831) 624-1521 and cost $20 for adults, and $10 for students and active and retired members of the military.
"All of the music that we'll be doing is incredibly versatile and for all ages and ears," said Huizinga. "These are going to be big, beautiful concerts with early music, Celtic music, some romantic music, and even some fiddling. The whole community is invited to attend the winter concerts, and share the musical experience of a Festival event in advance of the 78 th annual season taking place July 18 through August 1, 2015.

"This will be a wonderful evening that will take the community on a journey through four hundred years of music in a new setting for us."
Canadian-born violinist Huizinga is known as one of North America's most versatile violinists, and he is traveling throughout Canada and the United States throughout the coming year. He has recently started a new chamber music series with Keith Hamm called Stereo Live, featuring an eclectic blend of classical and indie rock music, and will be recording his fourth album with New York City-based baroque band Acronym.
This will be Huizinga's seventh year performing with the internationally acclaimed baroque ensemble Tafelmusik, and he will also be traveling to Europe with chamber orchestra The Knights, who are touring with legendary opera singer Dawn Upshaw. Additionally, this summer marks a decade of Huizinga's performances as a member of the Carmel Bach Festival. He will also be returning for the third summer in a row as Artistic Director of the Big Sur Land Trust's music camp for kids.
