Shares of J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (JCP) surged in after-hours trading on Tuesday, following a preliminary update on the Company`s performance for this holiday season.
For the combined nine-week November and December period, JCP reported comparable store sales growth of 3.7% over the same period last year, and now expects to report fourth quarter comparable store sales at the upper end of its previous guidance range of 2 to 4%.
According to the Company, its highest priority over the last year has been to restore profitable sales growth at JCP, and this holiday season was instrumental in that effort. JCP believes the work it is doing will fuel the continued growth of its business.
