(CareMed), a leading provider of specialty pharmacy, patient care coordination and limited distribution services to specialty practices, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers, today announced the appointment of national health care executives and leaders Mark Wagar and Ruben Jose King-Shaw, Jr. to its Board of Directors. In addition, Mr. Wagar will serve as Executive Chairman of CareMed.

Mr. Wagar is the former President and CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield, New York's largest health insurer covering nearly 6 million people. Currently, Mr. Wagar is President of Heritage Medical Systems, an affiliate of the Heritage Provider Network (HPN) that provides medical care for over 1M members. Ruben Jose King-Shaw, Jr., is the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Mansa Capital, LLC, a healthcare private equity investment firm based in Boston, Massachusetts with offices in Miami and Dallas. Mansa Capital specializes in early growth stage companies in the healthcare service and healthcare information technology sectors. Mr. King-Shaw, Jr. served on the Board of Directors of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. and Athenahealth. Mr. King-Shaw, Jr. currently sits on the Board of Directors of many of the firm's portfolio investments, including Independent Living Systems, Inc. He remains active in public service and was appointed to the Obama Administration's Medicare's Program Advisory and Oversight Commission, which was charged with reforming how the Medicare program procures specific products and services using value-based strategies and establishing foundations for President Obama's healthcare reforms.
