Novo Nordisk today announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the new drug application (NDA) for Saxenda® (liraglutide [rDNA origin] injection), the first once-daily glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist for chronic weight management. Saxenda® is indicated as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI greater-than or equal to 30 kg/m2) or who are overweight (BMI greater-than or equal to 27 kg/m2) in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition.
