Let me ask you this, Golfgod...why do you immediately ignore the information about scrap HDPE, PP and LDPE prices being about $0.30/lb, diesel spot being at $2.04/gallon and a gallon of diesel being about 7 lbs?? It seems pretty clear that even in the most optimistic theoretical case of converting one pound of plastic to one pound of oil, plastic to oil is a money loser.

I'm going to give Faustus credit for at least talking about the math. Ultimately Faustus came to the conclusion that my magically optimistic case wasn't optimistic enough! He saw some ads offering plastic at below the prevailing prices and assumed that PTOI would be endowed with the skill to find good enough plastic at much cheaper prices and thus make the most optimistic case work. At least he talked about it.
