I don't think anyone is doing any "damage" by posting on a message board, but to your point, I think different people are affected.
From the message boards of scam stocks which I've read, I get the impression that controversy pushes newcomers into thinking before they leap and that's a good thing. But once a person steps into defending the scam stock, they seem to become disciples and anyone posting a contrary opinion only fuels the disciples' conviction. Objectivity goes out the window in that relationship and they defend their new 'spouse' no matter how abusive the relationship.
For all the vocal Faithful and Patient, wouldn't it make more sense just to shut the hell up, tuck your certificates in a safety deposit box and reap the rewards you're confident you will get in five to ten years?
