Statistics from The Online Reporter: "Tracking the digital media industry, reporting trends and making predictions"
Samsung had 50% of the UHD TV market in the States through October 25, according to The NPD Group. Sony was second with 25% and Seiki and LG each had 11%. To which we at The Online Reporter caution: Samsung and Sony were in the market all year and LG and Vizio were not. Additionally Vizio only started shipping its 2014 UHD sets a few weeks ago but their features, very attractive pricing and Vizio’s close links with Walmart bode well for Vizio. In fact Samsung’s retailers have reduced the price of its entry level UHD TVs in the last few days. That may have been the plan all along or a Black Friday prompted cutting but it could also have been Samsung not wanting to give Vizio a free and uncontested march to the top of the market share for UHD sets.
Samsung 50%
Sony 25%
Seiki 11%
LG 11%
