For the first nine months of 2014, earnings were $222.1 million or $1.44 per share compared to $231.5 million or $1.51 per share in the first nine months of 2013.

The Company's annual dividend level is $0.98 per share. The common dividend will be payable December 19, 2014 to shareholders of record as of November 28, 2014. The shares will begin to trade ex-dividend on November 25, 2014. The Board of Directors also declared regular dividends on the Company's 3.80%, 4.20%, 4.35% and 4.50% series of preferred stock, payable March 1, 2015 to shareholders of record as of February 6, 2015. KCP&L Files Rate Increase Request with Missouri Public Service Commission

Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (NYSE: GXP), today filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission to increase base rates for electric service to approximately 270,000 of its 565,000 Missouri customers in the KCP&L Missouri service area. The request is for a 15.8 percent rate increase, which would result in an average residential customer paying less than an additional $14 per month, if approved. The rate request process takes approximately 11 months in Missouri, and new rates are expected to take effect on or about September 30, 2015.
