Solar cells embedded in windows.
Said no one who invested in Microsoft in the 80s and 90s.
Yeah but cars driving over the road and shading it would ruin the whole point of it. That being said the positive take from it is that in any application where tracking systems either wouldn't work or aren't feasible, the 3D Cell would own that market.
So, wouldn't integrating them into the solar road panel make them more feasible?
Yes it does. Removes the need for expensive tracking systems as well.
Doesn't the 3d cell eliminate the need for adjustments due to the angle of the sunlight?
Okay, maybe solar roads is a dumb idea. Still interesting to see people noting the fact that the angle of sunlight is a huge factor in power output.

True,and solar-trackers can only increase power-output 25-45% max and are expensive and need to be maintained which can add time and cost. The Solar3D 3D Cell increases power output by 200%. I'd rather have a 200% power output increase than a 25-45% one. So for less money and hassle of installing and maintaining a tracker, you could get more power output with the 3D Cell. No brainer to me!!!
I am sure you saw the solar "company" that mounts the roof top solar panels on a frame that follows the course of the sun for direct exposure throughout the day.
That's all fine and dandy, but there is a better solution.

"TNO, a Dutch research institute, has embedded a 230-foot stretch of the bicycle path with solar panels in an experiment to test the validity of full-scale solar-panel-infused roadways. The group plans to expand the path 100-feet further by 2016 in the hopes that it will eventually generate enough energy to sustain two to three households."
But there is one major problem according to the article:
"One notable downside is its inability to adjust to the changing angles of sunlight, which according to The Guardian, could cause the SolaRoad to generate 30 percent less energy than roof-mounted solar panels."
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, if only there was a solar cell out there that could address this problem of changing angles of sunlight??????
A contract to build a solar road or supply panels for a solar road miles long would be hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars.
And if there's any place that would be a pioneer in this with a miles long solar road, it would be California.
Trust me mark...you DON"T want ICF. Its total garbage and does nothing for energy efficiency. I spent 10+ years as a builder and turned down any ICF job that came my way. I can build a more efficient home with traditional framing.

You have a point, thanks for the reminder. Life isn't all ocean second houses and sports cars. This is an opportunity to do some good in the world as well. I know there is some college tuition that needs funding for some still young step grandkids, and I would certainly help Wounded Warriors.

Yes excitement is the word...so much i can do for my family and a few friends i want to give back so bad. I'm in the medical profession....burned out. There is this little dump of a hospital..3rd world i can't wait to rebuild it.
