Streamlined scratcher

The scratcher pics I saw awhile back were a little more crude than the one pictured here http://www.corelab.com/irs/fracture-stimulation-optimization ... which I found from one of those motely fool promos then Googled the comment and found Core Labs was the blotted out super reason the Backen drills were successful.
Is that scratcher mention in Treaty posts a workaround from theirs? Which a lot of companies try doing to avoid license fees.
