Truck driver falls asleep at wheel, crashes on I-81
CHAMBERSBURG >> A Lewistown man was injured after he fell asleep at the wheel, causing his truck to crash on I-81 near Chambersburg.
Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said Shawn L. Hubler, 30, was taken to Meritus Medical Center with moderate injuries following the crash Saturday at 12:32 a.m.
Hubler was driving south on I-81 near milemarker 14 when he fell asleep at the wheel. His truck drifted across the left lane, striking the center guard rail cables in the median.
He tried to regain control of his vehicle when the load shifted, but the truck flipped onto the driver's side, coming to a rest in the right lane of I-81 at milemarker 14.2.
Hubler was extricated from the vehicle by fire and EMS responders and taken to Meritus Medical Center.
Chambersburg EMS and Dave's Towing assisted at the scene. I-81 south was closed for approximately 3 hours.
