Anyone who discounts that simple math is barking up the wrong tree. What's funny is that you can't dispute the math--after all, it's there for everyone to see. So you poo-poo it instead. Rest assured that everyone who thought like you do over the past few years has taken substantial losses.
For everyone else, look up the price of scrap HDPE, PP and LDPE. Those are the only plastics PTOI is allowed to use per the permits. At around $0.40/lb, that's $800/ton. Calculating by weight, pure diesel is also worth about $800/ton. So even if PTOI could convert those plastics to pure, salable diesel at 87% efficiency, it's a losing proposition. P2O is worthless.
Further, the report written by some grad student based on the information from PTOI said that one ton of plastic can be converted to 4.4 barrels of oil. If that's good enough to substitute crude oil at $100/bbl then it's only worth $440. Converting $800 worth of scrap plastic to $440 worth of oil is not exactly a money making situation.
If someone poo-poos that math, ask them to put up or shut up. In the four years I've been here, they've shut up every time.
