NASDAQ Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date September 15, 2014

NEW YORK, Sept. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of September 15, 2014, short interest in 2,243 NASDAQ Global Market SM securities totaled 8,133,779,532 shares compared with 7,968,918,511 shares in 2,239 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of August 29, 2014. The Mid-September short interest represents 5.67 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 5.56 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 628 securities on The NASDAQ Capital Market SM totaled 620,168,454 shares at the end of the settlement date of September 15, 2014 compared with 606,822,213 shares in 632 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 4.49 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 5.44.

In summary, short interest in all 2,871 NASDAQ® securities totaled 8,753,947,986 shares at the September 15, 2014 settlement date, compared with 2,871 issues and 8,575,740,724 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 5.57 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 5.55 days for the previous reporting period.

The open short interest positions reported for each NASDAQ security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations. A short sale is generally understood to mean the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale that is consummated by the delivery of a security borrowed by or for the account of the seller.
