DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Lee Enterprises Inc. sustained a loss of $9.7 million in its fiscal third quarter as the publisher of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Rapid City Journal and 44 other newspapers absorbed the costs of refinancing its debt.

Excluding unusual matters, adjusted earnings per diluted common share(2) totaled 11 cents, compared with earnings of 6 cents a year ago.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (March 21, 2014) -- Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE), a major provider of local news, information and advertising in 50 markets, announced today that it has priced its offering of $400 million of Senior Secured Notes due 2022. The notes will pay interest in cash semiannually on March 15 and September 15 of each year, beginning September 15, 2014, at a rate of 9.5% per annum. The notes will mature on March 15, 2022 and will be issued at a price equal to 100.0% of the aggregate principal amount thereof.

The notes will be offered and sold to qualified institutional buyers pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the "Securities Act" , and to non-U.S. persons outside the United States in reliance on Regulation S under the Securities Act. The notes will be guaranteed on a senior secured basis by property and assets of Lee and certain of its subsidiaries. The interest rate, offering price and other terms will be determined at the time of pricing of the offering.
