There is no evidence of any strong resistance to medical mj in Lakeshore in terms of residents. Those who attended the July 15 town council meeting only seem bent on insuring it is placed in areas where it will have the least negative effect on residents. Those negative effects are largely based upon a lack of understanding of medical mj. The security guard gun carrying issue is not in my opinion relevant, nor is the odor issue, nor is the fear purchasers will be lined up down North Rear Road to purchase. On July 15th the open house was mentioned but only followed through on with the announcement last week.
Lakeshore only needs to have Essex County approve the zoning amendment recommendations, whatever final form they take, once the town council votes to adopt them. Any site specific zoning amendments have to be approved both by town council after the study period, and the Ontario Municipal Board, which will approve whatever decision the town council decides upon or send it back to them for further study. As the town itself said it can approve, deny, or defer. On July 15th they decided to defer rather than the other two options.
