Potomac Bancshares, Inc. Releases 2014 Second Quarter Results and Declares Dividend

Robert F. Baronner Jr., President and CEO, of Potomac Bancshares, Inc., (OTC-QB: PTBS), the One Bank Holding Company for Bank of Charles Town, announced its quarterly results for the period ending June 30, 2014. The Charles Town, West Virginia based company earned $648 thousand or 19 cents per share compared to net income of $588 thousand or 17 cents a share for the quarter ended June 30, 2013. The improvement in income as compared to the same quarter last year is due to growth in both the commercial and mortgage loan portfolios and better overall net interest margins. Income through the first six months of 2014 is $995 thousand or 29 cents per share compared to $1.154 million or 34 cents per share for the first six months of 2013. Baronner said, "Credit conditions continue to improve and real estate values are beginning to show some appreciation in the Eastern Panhandle which is our primary market. Mortgage volume has shifted from primarily refinances to new construction and purchases, which is a good sign that the real estate economy is improving." Baronner added, "Most of our commercial loan growth over the last year continues to come from our two new offices in Middleburg, Virginia and Hagerstown, Maryland."

For the quarter ended December 31, 2013, Potomac Bancshares, Inc. (OTC-QB: PTBS) earned $554 thousand or $0.16 cents per share compared to $502 thousand or $0.15 cents a share for the quarter ended December 31, 2012, an improvement of 7%. For the twelve months ended December 31, 2013, the company earned $2.328 million or $0.69 cents per share as compared to $1.639 million and $0.48 cents per share for the twelve months ended December 31, 2012, an improvement of 44%. "During 2013, the economy continued to improve and we once again experienced record mortgage volume," stated President and CEO Robert F. Baronner, Jr. "With the recent opening of the bank's seventh office in Hagerstown, Maryland and our new Loan Production office in Middleburg, Virginia, we are optimistic about the prospects for growth in 2014." Loans compared to last year, net of reserve, grew from $211.4 million to $228.3 million, an increase of 8%. Credit quality continued to improve as non-performing assets (non-accruing loans and other real estate owned) as a percentage to total assets declined from 2.97% to just 2.02% at 12/31/13.

The Charles Town, West Virginia based company earned $588 thousand or 17 cents per share for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 compared to net income of $346 thousand or 10 cents a share for the quarter ended June 30, 2012. This represents an improvement in earnings of 70% over the same period last year. Year to date earnings through June 30, 2013 are 34 cents per share compared to 19 cents for the first six months of 2012. Loans, net of reserve for the quarter ended June 30, 2013, were $220.6 million compared to $211.4 million at year end December 31, 2012, an improvement of 8.7% on an annualized basis.
