St. John, it took me 48 yrs and a good friend to realize that while things are never really as good as they seem (when things are going good), that nothing is ever really as bad as they seem (when things are going badly).
Stocks are the perfect example. We see spikes (things are "real good", until "things" go south, and "things" are bad, until level minds step in). Spikes, on emotion, and sell-offs, on emotion.
Key word: emotion.
Remove emotions from the truth and what you have left is just the truth, and the truth of the matter is, mankind is progressively becoming more divided on a grander scale.
Mankind has always been divided between the rich and the poor. Always. From Kings and peasants, to CEOs and clerks.
History repeats itself.
The world is slowly evolving to what once was only the demise of a small empire. The Roman Empire.
History repeats itself.
As the world grows larger, so too will the demises.
