Canada is not socialistic at all. Like the United States they have pockets of social support such as British Columbia and Saskatchewan. It is often said Canada has a National Health Insurance when in fact they do not. Health coverage is provincial. Alberta is like Texas with snow and no guns. The current Harper government is republican in nature - they represent the right wing although not as right wing as American republicans. The Ontario Municipal Board has oversight responsibilities so local initiatives do not conflict with provincial inititatives so there is a degree of consistency from county to country in the province. When you say buildings 1, 2, 3 you do yourself a disservice. Buildings do not fall under zoning regulations, land usage does. Site #1 at 20 North Rear Road is zoned Value Added Agricultural which means in terms of processing, they are limited to 6000 square feet and five employees which means a gigantic processing plant is not going to be located across the street where residents have their homes. When BC said zoning is not an issue, he was partially correct but in my estimation somewhate misleading. If he hired "expert urban land development consultants" as he claimed, then he should fire them. The Value Added has been there since day one. Did you know his cousin, Jim Shaaban (spelling is different from Chaaban but ask Bill) on that same site constructed that first pole barn with a solar energy installation intended to be a movie studio but he failed to get the required zoning amendment passed by the town? He later failed to get it passed to house a hotel on that site. That is public knowledge. Simply google Jim Shaaban movie studio in Lakeshore to get the information.
I don't know why BC dragged his feet. When he was claiming he had municipal approval he was wrong. If you read the minutes from Lakeshore meeting of July 15th, it is made quite clear the pole barn and razor wire fence was granted a building permit, not a medical mj permit. No one in Lakeshore has been granted a medical mj permit at this time. No one. When BC stated he was being grandfathered in, that also is not accurate. The town stated you can only be grandfathered in on an exisiting permit and again, no permit has been issued by the town for a medical mj facility. It was not until the company has notified HC they were ready to be inspected did they officially notify the town of their intention to open a medical mj facility in Lakeshore. If you search the permits, the buidling permit for site #1 is in the name of Jim Shaaban, not CEN Biotech. The cost of the second pole barn, end use agricultural storage and the fencing was estimated at $900,000.00 on the permits the town issued. It is not a permit for a medical mj facility.
The open house is niether here nor there in my opinion since residents don't vote. Since we do not know the other applicants or where they have applied to locate, one only can speculate as to the outcome. Bills cousin built a pole barn with solar energy panels and an editing suite for movies but the only film ever recorded on the site was the press conference. Just because you build it does not mean they will come. Look at Mirabel airport in Monreal.
